Lucknow Police Arrest Two Chain-Snatching Accused; Melted Gold and Cash Recovered

Lucknow: In a swift and coordinated operation, the Crime and Surveillance Team of the Lucknow Police Commissionerate’s Eastern Zone successfully apprehended two habitual chain-snatching offenders involved in multiple cases of robbery. The accused were nabbed by the Gomtinagar police team based on CCTV footage and local intelligence inputs.

According to police officials, the arrested individuals have been identified as Mazhar (27), son of late Javed Hussain, a resident of Sunrise Hospital area, Hardoi Road, Thakurganj, who works in gravel and sand trading; and Faizal (26), son of Rahat Ali, a resident of Bajirbagh Jharians Talab under Saadatganj Police Station, who works as an Ola-Uber driver.

The arrests come in connection with chain-snatching incidents registered under Case No. 471/2025 and 463/2025, both under Section 304(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Gomtinagar Police Station.

During the operation, the police recovered two melted pieces of yellow metal (approximately 10 grams) suspected to be parts of stolen gold chains, along with ₹49,000 in cash, believed to be proceeds from the sale of looted items.

Police investigations revealed that the accused were operating as a duo in different parts of the city, targeting unsuspecting individuals and quickly melting down the stolen ornaments to evade detection. The surveillance footage and confidential informant inputs led to their identification and subsequent arrest on October 7, 2025.

Authorities are currently verifying the criminal background of the accused to determine their involvement in other similar cases.

Police Team Involved:
The operation was led by SI Prem Kumar, along with officers SI Maroof Alam, SI Rakhi Singh, SI Mohammad Jaseem, Constables Ankur Chaudhary, and Akash Yadav from the Gomtinagar Police Station.

The Eastern Zone Crime and Surveillance team included SI Amarnath Chaurasia, Head Constables Sandeep Pandey and Amit Kumar, and constables Taranjeet Singh, Shivanand Kharwar, Vimal Chand Pal, Ajay Yadav, and Pradeep Kumar.

The Lucknow Police Commissionerate lauded the efforts of both teams for their prompt action and coordination, which helped crack the case and bring the culprits to justice.
